Siniora: Lebanon's withdrawal from the negotiations until the Israeli ceasefire
Fady Mahouly
President Fouad Siniora indicated in response to a question from Al-Arabiya station that “the Lebanese government and state have a card they can use, which is to stop participating in negotiations with Israel until the latter seriously adheres to the ceasefire.”
He added: "Lebanon took an advanced step, but Israel did not commit, nor did the United States of America, and America did not provide any real support to Lebanon so that it could continue this negotiating process."
Regarding the government’s withdrawal from the negotiations, demanding that Israel adhere to the ceasefire, Siniora said: “It is true that this is permissible, and the government can use this card to withdraw from the negotiations to ensure a serious ceasefire.”
He added: "I see that this is a correct position if taken by the government, especially since Israel is carrying out more than 120 raids daily. I believe that the Lebanese government cannot continue in this position, in which it is forced to continue negotiations in light of the continuing shooting and in light of the ongoing killing and destruction operations."
