Geagea warns against overstepping the Lebanese state in any regional and international settlements

The head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, confirmed that “the ongoing negotiations in Washington are the only plan that the Lebanese government can undertake currently to avoid the worst,” considering at the same time that “nothing will save Lebanon, neither negotiations nor anything else, before the state becomes an actual state.”
At the beginning of the interview with MFM Radio General Manager, Ralph Doumit, Geagea congratulated the radio on its launch within the MTV Media Group, considering that this group “has a clear line and a clear message,” saying: “MFM has joined the MTV family, and like Call of the Nation, they are all media outlets that have a clear line and work hard to deliver the message.”
In response to a question about whether negotiations alone are sufficient to save Lebanon, Geagea stressed that “everything depends on the extent of the Lebanese state’s ability, after 45 years of the absence of a state, to become an actual state,” adding: “Even if Lebanon and Israel reach an agreement, who will implement this agreement if there is no actual state?”
Geagea considered that the current government “enjoys full and constitutional legitimacy and represents the majority of the Lebanese people,” but he pointed out that “if the state is able to represent Lebanon abroad, and at the same time is unable to impose itself at home, no one will take it seriously.”
Commenting on the recent government decisions, he described them as “historic decisions,” noting that it is the first time that a president or government has taken such decisions. However, he stressed that “the decisions need actual translation on the ground,” and said: “We have reached where we are, because these decisions have not been implemented.”
Geagea said that Lebanon will remain “exposed to danger from all sides as long as the state is not effective,” considering that “just because everyone feels that the state is serious and that it has restored sovereign decision-making to it, means that we have crossed more than halfway.”
Regarding the accelerating Israeli escalation, Geagea believed that “the Lebanese state must restore the decision in its favor,” saying: “It is not possible for any party to decide on war whenever it wants and then later justify its decision with Israeli aggression.” He added: "If the state does not restore the decision, we will remain in the same hellish circle."
He stressed that building a state requires a “clear and bold stance,” noting that “any country in the world is sometimes forced to engage in confrontations with outlaw organizations, whether they are drug cartels or criminal organizations.”
Regarding the words attributed to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri about guarantees from Hezbollah for a ceasefire, Geagea said, “The issue is not whether President Berri is able to provide guarantees or not,” adding: “Even if a ceasefire occurs, what then? Lebanon has witnessed tens of thousands of ceasefire agreements over 45 years, but the crisis remains the same.”
He stressed that "the ceasefire does not mean anything if it is not part of a clear road map that leads to the establishment of an actual state that takes control of matters," considering that the main problem lies in "the abnormal situation that Lebanon is experiencing."
In the context of his talk about the American proposals regarding the sequence of steps to stop the war, Geagea said that “no one will support Lebanon more than Lebanon supports itself,” adding that “the Lebanese state has so far shown good intentions, but it has not yet proven that it stands on its feet.”
He expressed his fear that the Lebanese state would be “bypassed in any regional and international settlements or understandings,” saying: “If you do not have an actual influence in the game, you will not have a place at the table.”
