President Aoun: Let the political discourse in the country be a national discourse that focuses on the unity of the Lebanese

This afternoon, the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, chaired a security meeting devoted to discussing the security situation in the country in light of the continued Israeli attacks and their repercussions at various levels.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of National Defense, Major General Michel Mansi, the Minister of the Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, the Commander of the Army, General Rodolphe Heikal, the Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Raed Abdullah, the Director General of General Security, Major General Hassan Choucair, the Director General of State Security, Major General Edgar Lowndes and his deputy, Brigadier General Murshid Al-Hajj Suleiman, the Director of Intelligence in the Army, Brigadier General Antoine Kahwaji, the head of the Information Division in the Internal Security Forces, Brigadier General Mahmoud Qubrosli, the head of information in Public Security. During the meeting, the leaders of the military and security services presented the available reports on the situation in various Lebanese regions in light of the expansion of the Israeli attacks from the south to the Bekaa, all the way to Beirut and the southern suburbs, and the resulting martyrs, wounded, population displacement, and property destruction. The attendees also presented the situation on the Lebanese-Syrian border and the existing coordination with the Syrian authorities to maintain stability there. The attendees also discussed the situation of displaced Syrians after the return of about one hundred thousand of them to Syria and the facilities provided to them by General Security. The procedures that must be adopted during the upcoming holiday period were presented, especially near places of worship.
During the meeting, President Aoun stressed the full readiness of the military forces and security services, calling for the political discourse in the country to be a national discourse that focuses on the unity of the Lebanese, solidarity among them, and the rejection of division, sectarian incitement, and strife. The President of the Republic called for this matter to be extended to the media and social networking sites, given the important role that the media plays in these circumstances. President Aoun also stressed the need for governors, mayors, and municipalities to fully carry out their duties in coordination with the security services, pointing to the need to secure more shelter centers for those forcibly displaced from their towns and villages and provide security protection for them, stressing the guarantee of the dignity of every citizen and resident within the limits of applicable laws. He also stressed the need to control prices and combat monopoly.
President Aoun considered that this stage requires careful follow-up and rising to the level of national responsibility, away from private interests and personal accounts.
