President of the Republic Joseph Aoun received at Baabda Palace Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
The two presidents presented the current local and regional developments after yesterday’s announcement of the agreement on a memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran and evaluated the reactions to it, in addition to the contacts that took place with Lebanon in this field.
The discussion touched on the ongoing preparations for the next round of Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in Washington next week.
Presidents Aoun and Salam considered that the American-Iranian understanding constitutes a positive factor in terms of reducing tension in the region and pushing towards peaceful solutions and ending the state of war.
They stressed the stability of the Lebanese position in the Washington negotiations with regard to the final ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territories it occupies, the deployment of the Lebanese army to the international border, the return of Lebanese prisoners, and the launch of the reconstruction process.
