US President Donald Trump threatened Iran to destroy the South Pars gas field if it targeted energy facilities again, in a remarkable escalation following recent developments in the region.
He said that “the United States may resort to “destroying the entire field with massive force” if Tehran attacks “innocent” countries like Qatar, warning of serious repercussions for any new escalation.”
This threat comes after Israel launched an attack on the South Pars field, targeting a limited part of it, according to American statements.
Trump indicated that Israel was the one that carried out the attack on the Iranian South Pars gas field, and that the United States and Qatar did not participate in it.
Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform, "The United States was not aware of this specific attack, Qatar was not involved in it in any way, and had no prior idea that it would occur."
Following the strike, Iran responded by targeting a liquefied natural gas facility in Qatar, in a move described as unjustified, which increased tension in the region.
Trump stressed that he does not want a widespread escalation that could lead to long-term destruction, but he stressed that any threat to energy supplies or targeting of vital infrastructure will be met with a strong and decisive response.
