Israeli Chief of Staff: The party is in trouble
Fady Mahouly
Israeli Channel 12 reported on Sunday that the Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Army, Eyal Zamir, conducted a field tour in the areas of southern Lebanon, during which he was accompanied by military media.
According to what the channel reported from military correspondent Amit Segal, Zamir focused during his tour on what he described as the “center of gravity of the Northern Command” currently stationed in the areas of Ali al-Tahir and Qalaat Beaufort, claiming that these two locations “aim to secure the line of defense of the towns of northern Israel.”
Segal pointed out that Zamir inspected a site that he described as an “underground fortress” belonging to Hezbollah, whose construction, according to estimates, took about twenty years.
For his part, Zamir made his first statement regarding the renewed truce in southern Lebanon, which this time lasted for more than 24 continuous hours, according to what was reported by Israeli Army Radio.
The radio quoted Zamir as saying: “The declared ceasefire is fragile, and we must be prepared to resume combat operations, confront threats, and move quickly to attack when necessary.”
Zamir claimed, according to the Israeli channel i24News, that “Hezbollah” had received a “deep blow,” pointing to “the liquidation of an important chain of command in the ranks of the party’s field and middle leadership during the past two days,” and said: “We will no longer allow a security reality in which armed radical organizations are stationed on our borders.”
