Fady Mahouly
The authorities of Pakistan and Qatar announced, in a joint statement, the conclusion of the first round of US-Iranian talks held in Switzerland, noting that the atmosphere was positive and that the discussions had made progress, represented by an agreement to establish a mechanism to continue the technical talks.
The statement added that the parties agreed to form a high-level committee to politically supervise mediation efforts, and to adopt a road map aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days. Specialized working groups will also follow up on the files of the nuclear program, sanctions, and monitoring mechanisms.
It was also announced that a direct line of communication would be established to avoid misunderstanding and ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to establishing a collision avoidance cell that includes the concerned parties and Lebanon, with the aim of ensuring the cessation of military operations.
Qatar and Pakistan confirmed that the technical talks will continue in the coming days, while continuing their efforts to support negotiations to reach a final agreement.
