The Iranian national team imposed a goalless draw on its Belgian counterpart, on Sunday, in the seventh group of the FIFA World Cup held in Los Angeles, after it succeeded in keeping a clean sheet in the face of repeated Belgian attempts throughout the match. Although Belgium dominated most of the match and sought to impose its offensive advantage, it was unable to decipher the organized Iranian defense, which withstood continuous pressure until the final whistle. The Belgian national team's task became more difficult in the second half after defender Nathan Njouy was sent off for interfering with striker Mehdi Tarmi as he was running toward the goal with a clear scoring opportunity, so his team completed the match with ten players. With this result, the two teams raised their score to two points in the group. The Iranian national team is scheduled to meet Egypt in Seattle next Saturday, while Belgium will face New Zealand in Vancouver in the next round. Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand played a prominent role in his team's victory with a valuable point, after he blocked seven Belgian attempts during the match, amid a large crowd in Los Angeles, most of whom tended to support the Belgian team.
