Director of the East Office in the United States, Heba Nasr, revealed that the Lebanese and Israelis were supposed to discuss deconfliction mechanisms this week in the US State Department. She said: “But instead, it was announced that a new coordination cell would be established that includes Lebanon, Iran, the United States and mediators, without involving Israel.” Nasr added: “It is still unclear whether this arrangement was made in coordination with Secretary Marco Rubio or not.” She asked: “If these issues are now being addressed through this new mechanism, what exactly are Lebanese and Israeli negotiators supposed to discuss this week?”
