Algeria overturned its deficit against Jordan in the second half and defeated it 2-1 to eliminate it from the group stage, on Tuesday morning in Santa Clara in San Francisco, in the second round of the 2026 World Cup in football.
Nizar Al-Rashdan opened the scoring for Jordan (36), and substitute Nadhir Bouali equalized for Algeria midway through the second half (69), before Amine Guiri snatched the winning goal (82).
The “Desert Warriors” raised their score to three points in Group 10 on goal difference over second-placed Austria, while Argentina, the defending champion and previous winner over Austria with a Lionel Messi brace, secured the lead.
Algeria's last match against Austria will be fiery on the 27th of this month in Kansas, as the winner will decide the runner-up in the group, while a draw will suffice for Austria, noting that the eight best teams in third place qualify for the round of 32.
Thus, Jordan, which is playing its first participation in the finals, has bid farewell early after losing its opening match to Austria 1-3, while Algeria lost to Argentina with a Lionel Messi hat-trick.
Algeria, which is participating in the World Cup for the fifth time, most recently in 2014, won the only Arab confrontation in the group stage.
