Aoun: Negotiations with Washington are continuing

President Joseph Aoun indicated during his meeting with a British parliamentary delegation that he looks forward to Britain's continued support and support for Lebanon in its quest to maintain the international presence in the south after the start of UNIFIL's withdrawal at the beginning of 2027.
He added: "Work is underway to stabilize the ceasefire in the south, followed by the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the deployment of the Lebanese army, the return of the people, the release of prisoners, and the start of the reconstruction process."
He stressed that defining the model areas is still under discussion, pending approval by the Israeli side.
He stressed that the negotiations in Washington are ongoing and separate from what came out of the meetings in Switzerland last week between the United States and Iran, with Qatari and Pakistani follow-up.
