Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received a phone call from Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
Qalibaf stressed, during the call, that “ending the war in Lebanon and its sovereignty and territorial integrity are an important part of the first clause of the Islamabad understanding between Iran and the United States.”
He pointed out that the goal is to end the war in Lebanon, the return of refugees to their homes and villages, an end to the occupation and the withdrawal of the enemy from the land of Lebanon, stressing that the matter will be followed seriously.
Qalibaf announced, “In the Swiss talks, after the Iranian negotiating team clearly pointed out violations of this clause, it was decided to form a unit to manage the conflict between Iran, the United States, and Lebanon, and this unit will follow up on the implementation of this clause in Lebanon.”
In turn, President Berri appreciated the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian negotiating team, saying: “What you sought in Switzerland is in the interest of the Lebanese people, but the enemy is trying to circumvent the issue of restoring Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within the framework of the Islamabad understanding, through other means.”
Berri added: Washington's understanding between Lebanon and Israel is a conspiracy and sedition.
The two parties stressed the need to hold a “conflict management unit” meeting as soon as possible to control and end the war in Lebanon.
