Assault and battery... What happens? What happened at the Zahle Palace of Justice?
Fady Mahouly
Two prisoners in the Palace of Justice in Zahle, one of them Lebanese and the other Syrian, were able, after midnight, to open the lock on their cell door and remove it. Then they assaulted two members of the Internal Security Forces, handcuffed them, and seized the keys to the other cells, 10 in number, and were able to open them in an attempt to force the rest of the prisoners to flee and help them. However, most of the prisoners did not respond to this attempt and did not participate in the escape plan.
The security forces quickly moved, with the support of members of the Information Branch, the Judicial Police, and the Bekaa Investigation Department, in addition to large reinforcements from the Rapid Intervention Regiment of the Internal Security Forces. Control was restored and the situation was completely controlled inside the prison, without any of the prisoners being able to leave its premises.
