Kanaan: Limiting weapons to the state is a Lebanese issue... and has been on the table since the Taif Agreement
Fady Mahouly
The Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee, Representative Ibrahim Kanaan, confirmed, after his meeting with the President of the Republic, that restricting weapons to the state is a Lebanese matter and a necessity to protect Lebanon, especially after the war, indicating that this demand has been on the table since the Taif Agreement and is not something new.
Kanaan added that he informed the President of the Republic about the course of the negotiating process in Washington, its goals and backgrounds.
He stressed the need to be aware of the danger of the language of betrayal and incitement, stressing that national unity forms the basis, and that compromising it today only leads to perpetuating division, occupation, and the abolition of the homeland.
