Geagea: The framework agreement puts Hezbollah before its responsibilities

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, considered that the framework agreement constitutes a strategic shift that moves Lebanon from a formal state to an actual state, and opens the door to closing the southern border as an arena of wars that have lasted for six decades, enshrining a clear equation based on complete Israeli withdrawal and ending Hezbollah’s military reality.
Geagea stressed that the agreement undermined the party's illusions, which alone bears responsibility for prolonging the confrontation and Israel's entry into the south after its decision to fight "support" wars.
He pointed out that the conditions for disarmament of illegal weapons have become available with the presence of a President of the Republic, a Prime Minister, and a parliamentary and popular majority committed to the exclusivity of weapons in the hands of the state, and the issue today is related to moving from courageous decisions to implementation on the ground.
While he stressed that linking the Israeli withdrawal to ending weapons has become a political reality sponsored by Washington, Geagea recalled that the demand for arms exclusivity is a Lebanese demand stipulated in the Taif Agreement.
He asserted that the Lebanese army enjoys a national consensus and complete confidence that enables it to impose state authority as soon as a clear political decision is available.
