Moawad from Baabda: We support Lebanese legitimacy to restore sovereignty and end the occupation
Fady Mahouly
Representative Michel Moawad, after meeting with President Joseph Aoun at the head of a delegation, affirmed his support for Lebanese legitimacy in the path of restoring state sovereignty and ending the Israeli occupation.
Moawad said that the visit comes “to confirm our support for Lebanese legitimacy, which, under the leadership of President Joseph Aoun and the Lebanese government, is waging a difficult and thorny national battle, the goal of which is firstly to end the Israeli occupation and Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese lands, allowing for the reconstruction of the south and the return of the people to their villages and lands, and secondly to end any hegemony over the Lebanese state’s decisions, so that the state can regain its full role as a sovereign, free, independent state that alone monopolizes weapons and decision-making, and rejects any guardianship over its sovereignty.” or its institutions.
He added, "The occupation that exists today is a direct result of dragging Lebanon, contrary to the will of the Lebanese state and the will of the majority of Lebanese, into two successive wars," explaining that the first war in 2024 led to the occupation of five points within Lebanese territory, while the last war resulted in the occupation of about 10% of Lebanon's area, the martyrdom of more than four thousand Lebanese, and the injury of more than 12 thousand people, in addition to the displacement of more than a million Lebanese from their homes.
Moawad stressed that “there is no longer room for bidding,” considering that the Lebanese state, when it negotiates today, “is working to correct the mistakes that were committed previously, whether under the title of supporting Gaza or serving the Iranian project, and is seeking to restore what Lebanon lost as a result of choices that the Lebanese state was not the one to make.”
