Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani announced, after his meeting with the head of the Phalange Party, MP Sami Gemayel, at the Phalange House, that “the new Syria views Lebanon as a partner, and if there is a problem we talk about it jointly,” noting that “the meeting was full of hope for the Syrian and Lebanese people.” Al-Shaibani also confirmed that “today’s visit aims to open a new page with Lebanon and did not touch upon any initiative regarding Hezbollah.” For his part, Representative Gemayel hoped that the relationship between Lebanon and Syria would be one that builds a better future, adding: “We hope to reach political independence and economic exchange, and we must cooperate in what is best for the two countries, and his visit is a beautiful gesture.”
