Aoun: We are committed to restricting weapons

The President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, explained during his meeting with the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations concerned with the Middle East conflict and its repercussions, Mr. Jean Arnault, that “the goals set by Lebanon in the Washington negotiations are: consolidating the ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the villages and towns it occupies, the spread of the Lebanese army to the international border, the return of prisoners, and the return of the bodies of the Lebanese held by Israel,” stressing that “all of this is for the return of the people to their towns and to begin a march.” Ages.
Aoun stressed that “the army must be supported so that it can carry out the tasks required of it in the next stage, in addition to supporting the Lebanese economy to complete the process of advancement that began a year and a half ago and was hampered by the successive wars that the region experienced.”
He stressed that “the Lebanese state is committed to implementing the exclusivity of weapons and the decision of war and peace, and no one will participate with it in that.”
In turn, the UN envoy, Mr. Arnault, conveyed to President Aoun the greetings of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, stressing the United Nations’ support for the steps Lebanon is taking to preserve its sovereignty and independence and extend state authority over all Lebanese territories, especially the south, as well as supporting the army and continuing to provide humanitarian aid to civilians.
