Colombia reached the eighth final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, beating Ghana 1-0 on Friday in Kansas City, at the end of the round of 32 competitions. Palmeiras' Brazilian midfielder John Arias scored the only goal of the match in the 14th minute, giving his country a pass to the next round, where it will meet Switzerland, which beat Algeria 2-0 on Thursday. This is the fourth time that Colombia has reached the final eight, after 1990, 2014 and 2018. Its best result in the tournament was reaching the quarter-finals in 2014. On the other hand, Ghana failed to reach the quarter-finals for the third time, after 2006 and 2010, when it reached the quarter-finals before losing to Uruguay. Colombia settled the confrontation against its former coach, Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, early, after Arias followed a cross from substitute Luis Soares into the net in the 14th minute.
