Brazil received a new shock and bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup, today, Sunday, after losing to Norway with a brace from Erling Haaland (1-2) in the round of 16, continuing its struggle against European teams in the knockout rounds for the seventh time in a row since the 2002 final.
The Seleção added a new chapter to its series of bitter failures against European teams, which began in 2006 when it was eliminated by France in the quarter-finals (0-1), then the disappointment was repeated against the Netherlands in the 2010 quarter-finals (1-2).
In 2014, Brazil suffered the harshest defeat in its history at home against Germany in the semi-finals with a humiliating score (1-7), before losing to Belgium in the 2018 quarter-finals (1-2), then to Croatia in the 2022 quarter-finals on penalties (2-4) after a draw (1-1) in regular and extra time.
