Al-Sharaa and Macron announce a new phase... strategic agreements and exchange of ambassadors

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa announced, during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the People's Palace in Damascus, the agreement to exchange ambassadors between Syria and France, in a step that reflects the beginning of a new phase in relations between the two countries.
Al-Sharaa described Macron's visit to Damascus as a "historical milestone" in bilateral relations, stressing that it culminates a path of joint action, and represents the first visit by a French president to Syria in 18 years.
He said that Damascus views the visit as a new stage in the course of Syrian-French relations, with its political and economic dimensions, noting that relations with France are entering a new phase based on common interests and equal partnership.
He added that Syria seeks to consolidate its position as an economic and civilizational bridge between the East and the West, in addition to strengthening its role in the security and stability of global supply lines, stressing that the government will continue to complete the path of national integration.
Al-Sharaa praised Macron's decision to continue his visit to Damascus despite the bombing that took place in the capital, expressing his appreciation for this step, stressing that investigations are still ongoing, and that the competent authorities will arrest those responsible for the bombing as soon as possible.
Regarding the regional issue, Al-Sharaa condemned the Israeli attacks on Syria, expressing his hope that France would play a role in stopping them. He also stressed that Lebanon’s security and stability are closely linked to the security and stability of Syria.
He pointed out that the tour that brought him together with Macron in Old Damascus aimed to highlight the Syrian civilizational and cultural heritage, stressing that the city, with its history and landmarks, reflected Syria’s cultural message.
For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed his country's support for the Syrians, expressing his influence by the visit to Damascus, and saying that France supports a free and sovereign Syria, and respects the struggle of the Syrian people for freedom.
He added that combating terrorism represents a common interest between the two countries, stressing the necessity of the Syrian state extending its control over its entire territory and building the state of law as the basis for rebuilding Syria.
Macron stressed that France condemns all forms of interference and violations affecting Syrian territory, and renews its support for Syria's unity and stability, expressing his country's readiness to enhance cooperation with Damascus in combating terrorism.
He also stressed the importance of preserving the stability of the region, calling for enabling the legitimate authorities in Lebanon to carry out their duties, stressing that France rejects double standards in its positions.
