President Joseph Aoun received at Baabda Palace today, Thursday, the American Ambassador to Beirut, Michel Issa, and discussed with him the official visit that President Aoun will pay to the United States of America at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, in addition to the current situation in Lebanon and the region. During the meeting, Aoun stressed the need to establish a ceasefire in the south and pressure Israel to stop military actions and adhere to what was stated in the framework formula that was announced at the end of the Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in Washington, stressing the need to stop the bombing, bombing and bulldozing operations carried out by Israeli forces in a number of towns and villages that it occupies. Ambassador Issa said after the meeting that the Lebanese President’s visit to Washington acquires special importance in this particular circumstance, and it reflects the extent of the interest that President Trump attaches to Lebanon and his endeavor to achieve security and stability there and end the suffering of his people. In response to a question about the upcoming meeting in Rome on July 14 and 15, Ambassador Issa explained that the transfer of the meeting between the Lebanese, American and Israeli delegations to the Italian capital is due to technical reasons only related to facilitating the movement of ambassadors and members of the delegations, noting that the Rome meeting is of an organizational and executive nature according to what was stated in the framework formula, especially with regard to the formation of specialized work teams that will undertake the implementation of the arrangements agreed upon in Washington that may require legal specialists. Or technicians, depending on the topics at hand. Ambassador Issa confirmed that what will happen in Rome is to complete what was agreed upon in Washington, pointing to several meetings that will be held in the Italian capital or elsewhere to follow up on implementation according to the stages that will be agreed upon. Regarding the start date for work in the experimental areas specified in the Washington negotiations, Ambassador Issa explained that preparations are underway to implement what was agreed upon regarding the experimental areas, and that an American military delegation will arrive in Beirut within days to coordinate and determine the implementation mechanism on the ground, as it is necessary that there is no vacuum when the Israeli forces withdraw from the specified area, and in light of the results of the coordination meetings, the date for the start of implementation on the ground will be determined.
