Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirmed the Council's intention to complete legislation related to bank restructuring, after the government returned the draft law in its new form consistent with the observations of the International Monetary Fund.
Berri stressed, during his reception of the ambassadors of the European Union, Britain, Australia and Switzerland, that the Parliament “with the unanimous consent of its representatives” is committed to securing deposits in full through the Financial Gap Law, considering this an essential factor to facilitate reconstruction.
Berri also discussed with the US Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, the general situation, renewing the demand for the establishment of a ceasefire, Israel’s commitment to it, and the steps to withdraw to the international border.
Berri received Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Vahid Jalalzadeh, where developments in Lebanon, the region and bilateral relations were discussed. Zadeh conveyed a message from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, stressing Iran’s continued support for Lebanon.
