During their meeting today, the joint parliamentary committees approved a draft law to abolish the death penalty and replace it with aggravated life imprisonment, and referred it to the General Assembly of the House of Representatives in preparation for its approval. The committees also approved the draft media law, as part of completing the discussion of a number of draft laws on their agenda. At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Elias Bou Saab announced that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called for a meeting of the House Bureau on Monday, in preparation for holding a plenary session next week.
