France eliminates Morocco... and qualifies for the semi-finals

France ended Morocco's dream for the second time in a row at the World Cup when it defeated it 2-0 yesterday, Thursday, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, on the outskirts of Boston, and reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup.
France, which eliminated Morocco from the semi-finals of the last edition in Qatar when it beat them by the same result, owes its victory to its leader and historical top scorer in the finals, Kylian Mbappé, who scored the first goal in the 60th minute, and assisted the second for Ousmane Dembélé (66), knowing that he missed a “Banaleti” penalty kick in the 28th minute, which was blocked by goalkeeper Yassine Yeou.
France will meet in the semi-finals next Tuesday in Dallas with Spain or Belgium, who will meet this Friday evening in Los Angeles.
Mbappe raised his tally to eight goals in the current edition and joined the top scorers list, Argentine Lionel Messi (Mbappe has three assists compared to Messi's one), and reduced the difference between them in the number of goals in the history of the World Cup to one goal (20 vs. 21).
On the other hand, Dembélé raised his score to five goals in the current edition.
France continued its advantage over Morocco, as it has not lost to it in seven matches so far (won 5 and tied 2), the last of which was a 2-0 victory in the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, specifically about three years and seven months ago, on December 14, 2022.
France qualified in seven out of nine quarter-final matches, losing only two.
Morocco did not perform at its usual level, and it was clearly affected by the absence of its top scorer, Ismail Sibari, who was injured in the back muscle. They merely held on throughout the first half before conceding two deceptive shots from Mbappé and Dembélé.
France was the better party and had more possession of the ball and created many real scoring opportunities, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was on the lookout, including a penalty kick for the “Blue Blues” captain and their historic top scorer, the Spanish Real Madrid star Mbappe.
