Aoun: I will not neglect the south
Fady Mahouly
The President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, affirmed that the army and the state are capable of protecting the Lebanese, not parties, sectarianism, or sectarianism, and this is what we have experienced from 1975 until today.
He said before the delegation of the Board of Directors of the International Assembly: “The hidden Imam, Mr. Musa al-Sadr, was the first to stand against the exploitation of the South for the sake of non-Lebanese issues,” adding that the southerners are fed up and deserve to live in safety and stability, instead of seeing their property and lands destroyed at every period, and their children martyred, so why should Lebanon and the South always pay the price?
Aoun pointed out that the objective goals that all the Lebanese agree on are: withdrawal, the return of the displaced, the return of prisoners and bodies, and reconstruction, and this path must be tried after the war path has failed.
He continued: “Based on my responsibilities as President of the Republic of all of Lebanon, I affirm that I will not abandon the south or the rights of Lebanon. Therefore, there is an emphasis on Israel’s withdrawal from all Lebanese lands and its signature that it does not have any ambitions in Lebanon.”
He added: "I will ask US President Donald Trump to exert the necessary pressure on Israel to implement what was agreed upon in the 'framework formula' and the Lebanese demands, and to benefit now from the US administration's desire to achieve peace in the region and strengthen Lebanon's position in this field."
