President Aoun to Netanyahu: War will not achieve security
Fady Mahouly
President Joseph Aoun hopes that the negotiations in Rome tomorrow and the day after will result in concrete and practical steps on the ground and that the Israeli withdrawal and the deployment of the Lebanese army will begin in the evacuated places.
Aoun stressed before the delegation of the Elders Foundation, a delegation from the University of Balamand, and the former United Nations Coordinator for Peace Operations, Sigrid Kaag, that the Lebanese Army is carrying out its tasks in all Lebanese territories, despite the difficult economic conditions that the military suffers from, and that it must therefore be supported and provided with the necessary equipment.
He said: "The Prime Minister of Israel must realize that war will not achieve security, and therefore any stability will only come through negotiation and acknowledgment that continuing the war has no result except more killing, destruction and displacement."
He pointed out that it is not possible to continue with the approach of aggression and talk about peace and security, and historical experiences in all parts of the world clearly show that wars and force do not lead to peace and stability, or the elimination of informal powers, so Israel must change its approach if it truly wants to secure security and peace for its people and stability for the region.
