US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran's new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been "killed by 90 percent."
He added in an interview with Fox News: "They have neither a navy nor an air force. All of their leaders were killed. Their best leaders were killed. Khamenei was killed, and his son was killed by 90 percent."
Trump's statements came at a time when Iranian Leader Mojtaba Khamenei continues to be absent from the scene, since his appointment as successor to his father, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes last February 28.
Mojtaba has disappeared from sight since he was injured in the strikes that targeted his father and claimed the life of a number of senior Iranian leaders, while reports suggested that he suffered severe injuries and deformities that prevented him from appearing in public.
Mojtaba Khamenei's presence was limited to written statements read on Iranian television, but without his personal appearance.
In the same interview, Trump said that the United States would control the Strait of Hormuz, adding that it should be compensated for managing this important waterway.
Trump spoke about the memorandum of understanding with Iran, saying: “We had an agreement, but they broke it.”
Then the American President said on his platform, “Truth Social,” that he had reimposed the naval blockade on Iranian ports while launching an American operation to “protect the Strait of Hormuz,” as he put it.
