Regarding the change in the color of the waters of Ramlet El Bayda Beach...the Office of the Minister of Environment resolves the controversy!
Fady Mahouly
The Ministry of Environment indicated that it commissioned the National Center for Marine Sciences, affiliated with the National Council for Scientific Research, to examine the waters of Ramlet el-Bayda Beach and determine the reason why the waters of Ramlet el-Bayda Beach in Beirut were dyed green during the last two days.
It has been shown that it is due to the phenomenon of excessive algal blooming, which occurs mainly as a result of the high temperature of sea water with an excessive influx of nutrients, especially nitrates and phosphates, which are the basic elements that stimulate the process of photosynthesis.
She explained that this phenomenon did not continue due to the topography of the open Lebanese coast, which constantly exposes it to continuous hydraulic factors such as sea currents and wave movement, which help in the continuous movement of coastal waters and do not allow their stagnation or the occurrence of the phenomenon of eutrophication.
The Ministry pointed out that this phenomenon is not strange to our shores and has previously occurred several times during previous years.
