A phone call between Trump and Netanyahu... and a request regarding Lebanon and Syria
Fady Mahouly
Axios revealed that US President Donald Trump asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw Israeli forces from Syria and Lebanon, during a phone call that took place between them a day after Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Turkey.
Axios quoted an American official as saying that Trump told Netanyahu that the presence of the Israeli army on Syrian territory creates tensions and may lead to escalation.
Axios also reported, citing a source, that the Trump administration concluded that Netanyahu was unwilling to make the concessions Washington was seeking in Syria and Lebanon.
