The Hebrew "Walla" website revealed that the Israeli army is implementing a policy of "media ambiguity" regarding the issue of dozens of Hezbollah members who are allegedly trapped inside a tunnel network in the Ali Al-Taher area in southern Lebanon. According to the report, the Israeli military establishment fears that targeting the besieged people may lead to a response from Hezbollah, and perhaps direct Iranian intervention, which may lead to a broader military escalation, which explains the army’s commitment to official silence and ignoring the matter. The website stated that the besieged Hezbollah members are inside a network of tunnels in the vicinity of the town of Tabnit, located southeast of the city of Nabatieh, based on intelligence information that enabled the army to surround the network and close its exits several weeks ago. The Northern Command of the Israeli army estimates that the besieged people are provided with quantities of water and foodstuffs, such as dates and canned goods, in addition to medicines, which will enable them to hold out for several more weeks. The report indicated that Israel is giving the besieged people two options: surrender or remain inside the tunnels until supplies run out, which will increase the pressure on them over time. The site pointed out that mediators conveyed messages demanding that the trapped people be allowed to leave the tunnels without being attacked, but an Israeli security source said that the response was clear: “surrender or remain detained inside the tunnels.”
