Aoun: Al-Howayek’s beatitude confirms Lebanon’s message of coexistence

On the occasion of declaring Patriarch Elias Al-Howayek a blessed one, President of the Republic Joseph Aoun called for making this occasion a station for renewing commitment to the idea he carried, which is Lebanon as a land of coexistence and a civilizational message between East and West.
Aoun said that the declaration of the beatitude of Al-Howayek confirms that holiness and patriotism can come together in the path of one person, noting that the late patriarch saw the service of God as a service to man, and the service of the church as a message to the homeland.
He added, “The struggle of Patriarch Howayek was not the struggle of a sect defending itself, but rather the struggle of a nation that accommodates everyone,” recalling his saying: “I am for all the Lebanese.”
The President of the Republic stressed that the coincidence of the announcement of the beatitude of Al-Howayek with the centenary of the proclamation of the Lebanese constitution is not a passing event, but rather constitutes a sign of divine providence that accompanied Lebanon during the stages of its founding, and continues to accompany it in light of the current challenges.
