On Sunday evening, police in Berlin confirmed the death of the 21-year-old German suspect of Lebanese origin, who drove his vehicle into a gay parade in the capital, in an attack that killed a woman and injured about 30 people. The police explained, in a statement on the “X” platform, that its officers located his location around six o’clock in the evening, when he rushed towards them carrying a sharp tool, which prompted them to shoot him, which led to his death. Earlier on Sunday, the authorities launched a search for the suspect after identifying him, noting his association with “Islamic circles.” German media outlets, including "Bild" and "Der Spiegel", reported that the suspect was a supporter of the "Islamic State" organization, and had previously been convicted on charges related to preparing a violent act. Last year, he also attempted to travel to the Middle East to join the organization.
