The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum reported that a fire broke out in two ships to process and store natural gas in the port of Damietta in northern Egypt, without causing any casualties. The Ministry explained that the fire broke out in two gas processing and gas storage ships inside the port, noting that it was brought under control immediately according to emergency plans, without recording any injuries or human losses. The Ministry confirmed that the necessary measures were being taken to determine the repercussions of the accident. For his part, Major General Ayman Saleh, former head of the Damietta Port Authority, told Agence France-Presse, “There is a gasification ship moored next to a liquefied natural gas ship in the port of Damietta,” explaining that the “gasification process takes place under very high pressure,” which means that any leakage could lead to the outbreak of a fire.
