Fady Mahouly
The Ministry of Culture - General Directorate of Antiquities announced today that Beaufort Castle was not destroyed as a result of the bombings carried out by the Israeli army in the area opposite the castle.
She explained in a statement: “The concussions resulting from these explosions may have caused damage in the vicinity of the castle, but their size can only be determined through a direct field inspection.”
She pointed out that "the place is under occupation, which makes it impossible for the specialized technical teams to be there and conduct the necessary inspection."
Noting that Beaufort Castle was included on the List of World Heritage in Danger on July 24, 2026 during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee within the file for listing the castles of Jabal Amel. In addition, it has enjoyed enhanced protection since 2024 within the framework of the Second Protocol to the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Heritage during Armed Conflict.
