The members of the delegation confirmed that the project to rehabilitate and maintain the Wadi Qadisha-Deir Our Lady of Qannoubin road constitutes a historical demand for the people of the valley, because of the importance of the road in facilitating residents’ access to their lands and property, and enhancing their steadfastness and rootedness in their land, in addition to its role in preserving Wadi Qadisha, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Lebanese expatriate Elias Melhem also conveyed to Geagea the atmosphere of relief prevailing among the townspeople in exile after securing funding for the project, stressing that the achievement had a positive response among the scattered people of Qannoubine, who consider the road a vital artery connecting them to their roots, land and heritage. For her part, Geagea stressed that the road rehabilitation project constitutes an essential step in protecting the Holy Valley and enhancing the continuity of life in it, noting that it will contribute to stimulating religious and environmental tourism and supporting economic activity in the region.
