The US Embassy in Lebanon welcomed, in a statement, “the Lebanese Parliament’s approval of the updated media law, as an opportunity to develop the media scene in Lebanon.” She said: “Effective implementation and further reforms, including stopping criminal prosecution of journalists simply for carrying out their legitimate professional work, are essential to protecting journalists, preserving freedom of the press, and promoting a pluralistic and independent media environment.” She affirmed that "the United States remains firmly committed to supporting Lebanon's efforts to defend freedom of expression, protect journalists from political pressure, and maintain a vibrant and independent media sector."
