The Information Affairs Office of the General Directorate of Public Security issued the following statement: “Some media and social media platforms are circulating false information about the granting of a number of fake passports. The General Directorate of Public Security, having previously issued several statements and clarifications on this subject, reiterates that these allegations are completely false and are not based on any valid data or facts. The Directorate had previously initiated several investigations under the supervision of the Cassation Public Prosecution, which resulted in the issuance of passports based on incorrect incidents. These investigations led to the arrest of everyone proven involved, and the necessary judicial measures were taken, as they are still implementing the sentences issued against them to date. Since then, the Directorate has continued its investigations and audits into this file under the supervision of the Cassation Public Prosecution, and to date it has not been discovered that there is any invalid passport issued by it. In view of the continued promotion and re-publishing of these allegations despite their denial and the clarification of their truth repeatedly, the General Directorate of Public Security calls on the media and users of social media platforms to exercise the utmost accuracy and responsibility, and to verify the authenticity of the information and its sources, stressing that continuing to publish fabricated information without verifying its authenticity involves suspicious goals, especially damaging the reputation of the Lebanese passport abroad. The Directorate also confirms that it will not tolerate any party or person who promotes or publishes false or misleading news that would offend it or cast doubt on the authenticity of the Lebanese travel documents issued by it, and that it will take all necessary legal measures against violators, and prosecute anyone proven to be involved in publishing or promoting these false allegations under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
