The head of the Federation of Ovens and Bakeries Syndicates in Lebanon, Captain Nasser Sorour, considered that Lebanon is witnessing a continuous wave of rising costs, affecting fuel, diesel, gasoline, electricity, transportation, nylon, packaging materials, and other components of bread bundle production, in light of the military and security developments taking place in the region and threatening the supply and navigation routes, from the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea, and Bab al-Mandab to the Black Sea. Sorour said that the difference between globally traded oil prices and the prices paid by the Lebanese citizen needs a clear and transparent explanation, especially since international prices no longer clearly reflect what the consumer pays in the local market. He pointed out that the Union of Bakeries and Ovens Unions is following up the file daily with the Crisis Cell headed by the Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Al-Bassat, and in coordination with Ahmed Hoteit and the Director of the Cereals and Sugarbeet Office, Issam Abu Jaoude, stressing that the current stock of wheat and flour is sufficient for about three months. As for the price of a loaf of bread, Sorour said that based on current data and rising costs, it is expected that there will be a change in the price of a loaf of bread during the next week, according to the cost of production calculated by the approved platform, stressing that any change in the price, if it occurs, will not be arbitrary or arbitrary.
