The United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced that the situation in southern Lebanon remains fragile, despite the lower level of violence compared to earlier this year. UNIFIL reported that peacekeepers recorded 1,030 projectiles between August 21 and 27, an average of 147 projectiles per day. She pointed out that the repercussions of the situation are still weighing heavily on civilians, as homes and vital infrastructure have been damaged, while local communities struggle to recover. She stressed that peacekeepers continue to monitor and report developments on the ground, and work with the parties to help prevent further escalation. UNIFIL stressed that the parties’ commitment to Resolution 1701 is essential to reduce tensions, restore stability, and provide local communities with the opportunity to recover.
