Today, Saturday, the Washington Post revealed some of the terms of the agreement reached by the United States and Venezuela regarding oil, and it was announced by both US President Donald Trump and interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez. She noted that the deal gives Washington control over oil projects that include about a quarter of Venezuela's untapped oil reserves, and includes 17 Venezuelan oil fields that lack the necessary infrastructure to produce and transport oil. The historic deal stipulates that the United States will become the largest owner in a new joint oil company, with contracts extending for 100 years, in a number of Venezuelan oil fields. The US government's share in the new company will be divided between ownership of shares and guarantees to purchase the oil produced at cost, with the aim of refilling the US strategic reserve. US President Donald Trump had announced earlier that the United States had concluded an agreement with Venezuela regarding what he described as the largest oil deal in the history of the world. Trump noted that his administration "secured the United States' control of more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in Venezuela," noting that this was done at no cost to American taxpayers. Trump said that this agreement was made under his direction and through the efforts of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who cooperated closely with the interim President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez. The US President stressed that “this historic deal will more than double US oil reserves and significantly increase oil supplies,” noting that it will lead to lower gasoline prices for all Americans. Venezuela's interim president said she had concluded an oil agreement with the United States, giving Washington control over a majority of the 65 billion barrels of proven Venezuelan oil reserves. She noted that this agreement will have a "major impact on Venezuela's renaissance."
