Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam received this afternoon the Army Commander, General Rudolf Heikal. The Army Commander briefed President Salam on the results of his visits to Jordan and Italy, and they also discussed the situation in the south. Salam also received a delegation from the municipality of Al-Qawzah, who presented to him the conditions and demands of the town, especially the conditions of its people displaced to neighboring towns and areas outside the south, and ways to support and assist them. He stressed that the government is working to secure the needs of the displaced from Al-Qawzah and other southern villages and support them until their return, in parallel with continuing efforts to provide the necessary conditions for all the people of the south to return to their villages and towns in safety and dignity. Earlier, he met with a delegation from the “Greater Lebanon Gathering”, which included MP Ashraf Rifi, Ms. Hayat Arslan, Abdel Majeed Awad, and Saleh Al-Moqaddam. Representative Rifi explained that the delegation handed President Salam an invitation to attend the celebration commemorating the declaration of the State of Greater Lebanon, which will be held next Saturday in Tripoli. President Salam stressed that Greater Lebanon, despite the crises it witnessed, succeeded in producing diverse thought and a common culture that brought together Lebanese of all affiliations, and provided a distinctive space for freedom, pluralism, and openness. He stressed that our responsibility today is to preserve Greater Lebanon, adhere to the finality of its entity and borders, and learn from the mistakes of the past. This requires building a state that achieves balanced development, does not leave parties outside the path of development, preserves the freedom and rights of the individual in a way that complements the freedom of groups, and allows all Lebanese to be equal partners in building the future of their country.
