President Joseph Aoun received Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty at Baabda Palace, stressing that the Lebanese negotiating initiative aims to stop the military escalation, end the Israeli occupation of the southern regions, extend the authority of the Lebanese state over the internationally recognized borders, and ensure the exclusivity of weapons in the hands of the state. Aoun praised the continued Egyptian support, especially the humanitarian aid that arrived in Beirut today to alleviate the suffering of the displaced as a result of the ongoing Israeli attacks, stressing that Lebanon does not want to be a theater for others’ wars, and that the army and security forces are preserving the safety of citizens and civil peace. In turn, Abdel Ati stressed that Egypt supports Lebanon in stopping the war and protecting civilians, and that it has made contacts to pressure Israel to stop hostilities, expressing his hope that President Aoun’s wise vision will contribute to preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty and internal peace.
