Salam indicated at the beginning of the session that next week will witness successive sessions to present and discuss the budget, and he confirmed that the issue of sabbaticals for Lebanese University professors will be presented to the Council of Ministers session next Thursday, as he previously committed. After the session ended, Information Minister Paul Morcos announced that a series of decisions had been taken, most notably resolving the issue of farms and slaughterhouses surrounding Rafic Hariri International Airport. Emphasis was placed on closing and prosecuting unlicensed or violating institutions, and forming a ministerial committee to study the situation of licensed institutions and submit its recommendations within 15 days. The Council also approved exempting insured persons from peritoneal dialysis contributions, and approved a Kuwaiti offer to strengthen the electricity sector, provided that the budget study begins in daily sessions starting next Tuesday, and Thursday’s session is allocated to the full-time file at the Lebanese University. Minister Morcos also renewed Salam’s position of welcoming the release of Lebanese prisoners and continuing efforts to uncover the fate of the missing and achieve complete Israeli withdrawal, stressing that President Joseph Aoun always puts the Council in an atmosphere of pressure negotiations and communications to stop Israeli destruction and bulldozing operations in the south.
