On Monday, the Israeli Knesset approved the death penalty law for perpetrators of attacks, during its plenary session, by a majority of 62 members compared to 47 opponents, in the first reading, according to what Maariv newspaper reported.
The results of the vote showed a political division within the Israeli arena, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with Avigdor Lieberman and Aryeh Deri, supported the law, while opposition leader Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz, in addition to the Arab parties, opposed it.
According to the data, the Knesset later moved to discuss the reservations in preparation for voting in the second reading, provided that the legislative process will be completed until the final third reading to fully approve the law.
