The French Foreign Ministry confirmed that "there is no French plan to stop the war in Lebanon." She explained that "the initiative of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is on the table for discussion and is welcomed internationally and in Europe." She noted that "Paris supported the openness of the Lebanese authorities to holding direct talks."
