Paraguay faced Turkey with ten players for more than a full half and defeated it 1-0, eliminating it from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup in football, on Friday in San Francisco. After Matías Galarza opened the scoring in the 64th second, scoring the fastest goal in the current World Cup. The match witnessed the expulsion of his teammate Miguel Almiron at the end of the first half for covering his mouth while directing words to a Turkish player, which is the first case of expulsion of this kind in the history of the World Cup. This result led to Turkey's exclusion from the second round, after its opening loss to Australia 0-2, while the United States secured the top spot in Group Four and playing in San Francisco, after two wins over Paraguay 4-1 and Australia 2-0. The first half was enthusiastic and the Paraguayan team started in the best possible way, as Julio Enciso's touch prepared the ball for Galarza and he fired a low shot with his left foot that scored the net after only 64 seconds, becoming the fastest goal in the finals. Turkey almost equalized shortly after that, but Arda Guler's shot from a crossed cross pass from the right side via Akturkoglu went over the crossbar (13). Mert Muldor was also close to scoring the equalizer, but his header from close range hit the crossbar before bouncing off the post (34). The Paraguayan national team received a strong blow in the third minute of stoppage time in the first half, after completing the match with ten players following the intervention of the video assistant referee, as Almiron received a red card for covering his mouth while uttering words towards Moldor.
