US Vice President J.D. Vance responded today, Tuesday, to a letter from the head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, which he had addressed to him regarding the situation in Lebanon and the challenges related to Lebanese sovereignty and the role of the state, in addition to the reality that Christians are experiencing in Lebanon. In his response, Vance stressed that the United States views the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and the Lebanese government as the only legitimate authority in Lebanon, and that Washington intends to work with the Lebanese state in a way that enables it to protect its sovereignty and consolidate its legitimate authority. He explained that the communications conducted by the US administration with Iran regarding Lebanon do not aim to give Tehran any role in deciding the future of Lebanon or influencing its decisions, but rather to ensure that it puts pressure on the “party” to adhere to its pledges and obligations. Vance pointed to the ongoing follow-up he is conducting with the relevant American officials regarding the Lebanese file. He stressed that the American administration is interested in developments in the situation in Lebanon and supports its sovereignty and legitimate institutions.
