Former Lebanese Minister Bahij Tabbara died today at the age of 97, after a long career in legal and political work that spanned more than seven decades, during which he held a number of ministerial positions and contributed to prominent constitutional and judicial files.
It is scheduled to pray over his body after the afternoon prayer today, Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Basta al-Tahta Mosque, and he will be buried in the Bachoura Cemetery.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam mourned the late, considering that Lebanon lost with his passing one of the most prominent men of law, who left a prominent mark in political and constitutional life. He said in a post on the “X” platform that Tabbara was known for his firm belief that building a state begins with reforming its institutions, stressing that his intellectual legacy will remain a reference for future generations.
Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri also mourned the former minister, and wrote: “With the departure of Bahij Tabbara, Lebanon loses a great legal and political stature. He was a companion of the martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, and left his mark on basic judicial reforms and sensitive constitutional interpretations. May God have mercy on Bahij Tabbara and grant him a spacious paradise, and inspire his family with patience and solace.”
