The Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, from the headquarters of the Lebanese Embassy in Kuwait, launched the biometric fingerprint service for the first time outside Lebanon to issue biometric passports, accompanied by the Director General of Public Security, Major General Hassan Choucair, and the Lebanese Ambassador to the State of Kuwait, Gadi Khoury, in the presence of the Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Raed Abdullah, the acting Director General of Personal Status, Rodina Mereb, the Deputy Head of the Mission, Consul Mia Al-Adam, and the embassy staff. Al-Hajjar stressed that this step constitutes an important step in the process of modernizing the Lebanese administration and developing the services provided to expatriates, noting that it came in response to the request of the members of the Lebanese community abroad, which he touched directly during his meetings with the deployed Lebanese. He explained that the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities instructed the General Directorate of Public Security, in coordination with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Finance, to prepare for this project. He pointed out that this service will enable Lebanese residing abroad to complete the procedures and take biometric fingerprints at their place of residence and send them electronically to Lebanon in preparation for completing biometric passports, without the need to come personally to Lebanon. Al-Hajjar stressed that, after receiving an official invitation from his Kuwaiti counterpart to visit Kuwait, and after completing the necessary preparations by a team of Lebanese Public Security officers, he expressed his desire for the first launch of this project to be from Kuwait, in appreciation of the active Lebanese community it hosts, and the strong relations between the two brotherly countries. He stressed that this experience, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, will be successively circulated to Lebanese embassies and consulates in the Gulf states and other countries of the world.
